TODAY: SFU View Cone Lecture + Cronyism at City Hall
Don't miss the hottest ticket in town tonight
It’s the hottest ticket in town today that’s been fully subscribed twice! Don’t miss it!
Join SFU's City Program and SFU Urban Studies for a free lecture tonight at 6:30pm by former Vancouver Planning Director, Larry Beasley, and architect Peter Busby, on a key policy that has shaped Vancouver's skyline.
Vancouver’s View Protection Policy has shaped downtown Vancouver into one of the most recognizable skylines in the world and ensured views of the city, water and mountains from various viewpoints across the city remain a public commons. Countless views are automatically protected from the dense heart of the downtown out, along the corridors.
This presentation is by Larry Beasley, the former Director of Planning for the City of Vancouver, and architect Peter Busby, who were instrumental in crafting the view protection policy. They will delve into how the policy was developed and implemented.
In-person registration is full, but the online live stream is still available for tonight at 6:30pm:
Cronyism at City Hall linked to view cones campaign
Melody, the driving force behind this Save Our Skyline YVR campaign, has suddenly been replaced as an independent non-partisan Vancouver Public Library trustee by ABC city councillors for a political crony.
Is it because of view cone advocacy?
More about it here from CBC, here from CityNews, and here on X (including a bit on ABC Councillor Peter Meiszner spending a VPL board meeting reading view cone articles of Save Our Skyline YVR).
