Urgent: Last day to stop privatization of Vancouver's public mountain views
Write in and register to speak by 5pm today
This Cambie St view cone could be shrunk to this:
And this is what could happen in Chinatown and DTES:
And this view from Cambie Bridge of the mountains peaking out from behind the Habour Centre and BC Place spires will be completely eliminated.
This is not all they’ve proposed to privatize, but some of the most egregious ones. For the full report of view cone impacts, see here.
Public views of the mountains are a public amenity for everyone to enjoy in Vancouver. But City Council wants to privatize them so only the wealthiest can access and profit them.
Once the public mountain views are blocked by condo and office towers, we’ll never get them back again.
Stop Mayor and Council from privatizing the public mountain views. This is the last day to take action:
Register to speak by 5pm today at the council meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, July 10. We need as many speakers as possible because you’d be sure the real estate industry will be lining up to speak. You can speak by phone or in-person. (Select Report 1)
Write a letter to council today to tell them to stop privatizing the view cones. You can emphasize some of the view cones highlighted above including the Cambie St view cone, DTES and Chinatown view cone, and Cambie Bridge view cone. (Select July 10 Standing Committee: Report 1)
This is your last chance to take action now to protect public mountain views for all to enjoy.
