City Council sold off Vancouver's public mountain views today
They've privatized the view cones in one sweep
City Council voted to privatize Vancouver’s public mountain views today, undoing 30 years of protections that gave everyone access to the magnificent sights of the North Shore mountains in the city.
Despite speakers lining up to dissuade city council from voting on the changes, the ABC-dominated party decided to sell off one of Vancouver’s most iconic and cherished assets to the wealthiest anyway.
Three councillors, Rebecca Bligh, Adrienne Carr, and Pete Fry, attempted to block the outright removal of certain view cones, such as the Cambie St one above, but the majority of the ABC party voted to eliminate them instead. Do note that Bligh, Carr, and Fry supported the shrinking of the rest of the public views and did not oppose the view cone reduction recommendations outright.

The councillor, Peter Meiszner, who brought the view cones elimination motion forward, went online to pat himself on the back for destroying the public views. Mayor Ken Sim say’s he’s “delivering for Vancouver” — though it seems like he’s more like destroying Vancouver.
You may be wondering what’s next.
That’s it. There’s no recourse. There’s no public engagement and no more public hearings or anything. Vancouver’s public mountain views have been sold off. Enjoy them right now before they’re shrunk and gone.
